We are excited to have Taryn, from the very aesthetic Instagram @TheCoffeeQuester, to guest blog today. She is bringing in two of her awesome simple syrups! Her Instagram is so fun and worth checking out.
We are so excited to try these syrups, and we think you should be, too!
Don’t get me wrong…I love a good vanilla latte or mocha. But do you ever visit a coffee shop, look at the menu, and think, “That’s it?” As a coffee blogger for over 2 years, I’m always searching for coffee shops with unique, house-made flavors that push the envelope. I’ll never forget my Maple Sage Latte from Parakeet Café, or my Butter Cake Latte from Rough Draft Coffee. Those drinks stand out in my mind, and I say to heck with it if I’m not riding “purist train”!
Since I haven’t been able to visit those incredible coffee shops during quarantine, I decided to experiment with some fun coffee syrups of my own. Rough Draft always sets the standard for fun syrups, so I recreated their Honey Lavender and Bourbon Vanilla flavors. These syrups are oh-so-easy to make and take any cup of coffee up a notch. All you need is a few simple ingredients and your kitchen will feel like a coffee shop in no time! Both recipes make ~8 servings.
Honey Lavender Syrup:
★ 1/2 cup water
★ 1/2 cup honey
★ 1/2 tbsp lavender buds (fresh or dried)
★ Cheesecloth
- Add all ingredients to a pot and bring to a boil. Boil for 5 minutes.
- Pull off heat and let steep for 30 minutes.
- Stretch a few layers of cheesecloth over a jar and pour syrup through the cheesecloth until all the buds are separated.
- Seal and store at room temperature!
Bourbon Vanilla Syrup:
★ 1/2 cup water
★ 1/2 cup raw sugar (You can also use regular white sugar, but I find that raw gives it greater depth of flavor).
★ 1/2 tbsp vanilla
★ 1 tbsp bourbon whiskey
- Add water and sugar to a pot and bring to a boil until sugar dissolves.
- Pull off the heat and add remaining ingredients.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature.
That’s it! Can you believe it? Just a few minutes and you’ll have syrups that make even drip coffee to die for. As Michael Scott says in The Office, it’s a win-win-win.
Let me know how you enjoy these recipes! Share how your syrup turned out to Instagram or Facebook, and be sure to tag @thecoffeequester.
Stay caffeinated,
