What a fun Coffee Roasting family business I came across on social media! Their name is Banyan Coffee Company and they are based out of Bradenton, Florida. And guess what? They say their coffee is so fresh that it is roasted within 48 hours of it being delivered. Sign me up!
Being an avid buyer of a larger well known company, I wanted to switch things up by purchasing from local and small businesses. I feel like there is more character to these beans than those larger chains, anyway!
Banyan Coffee Company was kind enough to send us coffee and to thank them I will definitely be purchasing some more to support their business! We were so happy with the flavor and we think you should totally check them out! Maintaining a family AND a successful local Florida coffee business, that’s pretty cool. 🙂
Not only did they send us such a generous amount, but they sent two different types: Guatemalan and Sumatra. Both were so yummy and we will talk about them below.
They also sent us a really cool sticker, too! We are sticker nerds for sure so that was such a surprise.

We received our coffee quickly in the mail. Look how rustic these coffee bags look! If you read their website blog, these bags are designed to maintain the freshness of the coffee they provide. The bags block out sunlight and are equipped with a one-way valve so that air does not spoil the beans freshness. Also, the date these beans were roasted was printed.
I chose to buy the beans whole and then ground them up at home right before brewing. That’s the freshest way to enjoy coffee after all!
Ways to brew fresh coffee:
- Single Cup Drip
- French Press
- CoffeeMate or a simple coffee maker if you don’t want to get too fancy
My favorite way is a French Press.. and I prefer hot coffee. Our French Press broke, so I did a simple coffee machine. Both flavors still came out boldy and deliciously flavored.
Banyan Coffee Company says that their coffees are great both served hot and cold! I am going to have to 100% agree with this. 🙂
Guatemala
- Chocolate and Caramel Notes
- Bitter/Acidic (but in a good way, this is how Guatemalan coffee should taste)
- Medium Roast
I made sure to make a few different brews to taste this. The first cup was so exciting that I had to ignore that tasting because I was overthinking it. The next couple of cups throughout the week, I was actually able to taste all of the goodness. My cup this morning, I realized how much this tasted like chocolate! So, I went onto their website to actually read about this flavor, and don’t ya know they said it has strong chocolate and caramel notes in it! This coffee was so good to drink dark, so then I added my creamer to see what that tasted like. Wow! What a treat!
Sumatra
- Earthy (this is always a compliment in the coffee world)
- Less Bitter/Less Acidic
- Bold
- More chocolatey notes with a touch of spice!
- Dark Roast
Okay, so I love Sumatra already. That always has been my favorite kind of bean. This Sumatra from Banyan Coffee Company hit it on the spot! It was so yummy! I loved the smell of it when it was ground, and the taste when it was brewed! Seriously so yummy! Delicious dark and more delicious with a little bit of my coffee creamer. The chocolate flavor is perfect, it’s semi-sweet. There’s less acidity to this coffee than the Guatemalan, so it is an extremely smooth coffee.
This coffee is 100%+ Delicious!
Thank you so much!
